This. I want this. Allllll of this.
I would install portal axles and then lower length shocks and springs to get near to the same net effect ‘ axle lift’ . Then switch to some old- school meaty summer tires. And then stronger motor build, turbo, blah blah blah, something something booooooooost.
I would then proceed to have a blast. Absolutely ever ywhere.

I can hear and feel that clutch from here. That is the worst part about driving these vehicles. Awesome but the clutch is awful. My FiL has one in original and unmolested condition - clutch finally packed it in last week!

Is it just under- spec’d from the factory? And I guess, worsened if the drivetrain is modified in excess?
Sounds like a perfect excuse to upgrade the clutch. :)

It’s reasonably well matched to the drivetrain but the action is light and the bite point is at the top of its range. They can cope with big wheels but they really don’t need them to achieve amazing things...same reason they don’t need more power either.

A guy I went to high school with built a Suzuki Samurai with a 13B rotary swap with his pops . It was wonderfully excessive and at least a little terrifying to be a passenger at WOT . Whenever I asked why they went that route, his response was always, “I dunno, it’s a Puerto Rican thing.”
